Mario is a sweet, smart, and lovable little guy with the perfect balance of playful energy and calm companionship. He adores squeaky toys, enjoys a good game of fetch (whether with a ball or toy), and happily curls up at your feet for a nap after playtime. Mario is crate-trained in progress, he’s even started going in on his own for a chew and a rest. He’s gentle with his toys, never destructive, and has great house manners. He walks beautifully on leash, keeping pace without pulling or darting, and rides well in the car in his doggie car seat. Mario is friendly with other small dogs and respectful of their space. He’s done well meeting new pups, though his experience with larger dogs is unknown. He may bark at people and dogs passing by, and seems particularly unsure of men at first. With patience and positive introductions, like when he met a friendly male neighbor, he warms up and accepts affection. Mario is house-trained, though there may still be some marking as he adjusts to a new environment. He’d love a home that can give him gentle guidance, daily walks, and plenty of squeaky-toy time. If you’re looking for a loyal, playful, and affectionate companion who will follow you from room to room and keep you company in all of life’s moments, Mario may just be your perfect match! He is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on his vaccines. His adoption fee is $300. All Second Chance Dog Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, are up to date on vaccines and have microchips prior to adoption. Adoption fees vary depending on age of dog. Fees help Second Chance Dog Rescue cover spay/neuter costs, vaccinations, medical treatments, food and supplies. Please go to .secondchancedogrescue and complete an application today! All dogs live in private foster homes until they are adopted.

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
