MABEL NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Come meet Mabel and other great adoptable dogs this Sunday (11/9) from 12-3 pm at the PetSmart in Rockville, MD (5154 Nicholson Ln, Kensington, MD 20895)! Name: Mabel Best Guess for Breed: Boxer and hound mix Best Guess for Age: 2 years as of August 2025 SEX: Female Approximate Weight: 54 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs and cats! We haven't seen her with kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! Currently Living at: DC area forever home. Check out Lucky Dog Mabel loving life with her dog friends! All about Mabel: Mabel is a big sweetie of a dog. People who see pictures of her say she's a ringer for Scooby Doo - but her foster found that slightly offensive. She said firmly that Mabel is far better looking and braver than Scooby Doo! In playgroup at the shelter, she was great with all other dogs - she was a helper dog who made sure other dogs felt comfortable. She loves a good game of tag with her dog buds. What my foster says about me: Mabel is back in a foster home and is loving it! She is such a sweet gal. She is getting along well with our resident dog and all the dogs in the neighborhood. She is relatively young and loves to run and chase in the park. She shows interest in our cat but we are feeling more comfortable with them being in the same room together off leash. She has had very few accidents and usually gets right to her business first thing out the door, especially in the morning. She is a gorgeous color, sleek with long features - she likes to put her nose wherever she can reach, which is considerable! She has occasionally chewed a rug or pillow briefly but this is happening less and less and she is easily redirected to something more appropriate. She sometimes pulls but generally is very good on leash. She cries a little if crated, but she has been uncrated in a 2-room area for 3-4 hours and settle pretty well and has not destroyed anything. She has been quiet throughout the night on a bed next to her humans. She is not a big cuddler, but she always likes to be in the same room and sits next to you on the couch. She takes treats really well and is slowly learning sit. Overall Mabel is just a good-natured, happy girl. Heartworm information: Mabel is a truly Lucky Dog. She tested positive for heartworms, but has been treated! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. Heartworm dogs can resume full active and normal lives, but need to be kept calm for 4-6 weeks after treatment. Mabel has completed this activity restriction phase. Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training.
