Description
Dog Breed: Hound / Mixed. Dogs just don't get much better than sweet Ellie. This 2-year-old hound mix girl is great on leash and loves long walks and car rides. She is crate trained, house trained and will go to the door to let you know that she needs to go outside. She needs a home with a fenced yard to keep her safe because she loves outside time and will chase critters. Squeaky toys are a favorite, and she shares them with the other dog in her foster home. She loves to play with other dogs and is fantastic with kids of all ages. Ellie has great house manners, is quiet and rarely barks. She is a perfect, full-grown size weighing just 37 pounds. Ellie is sweet to the core! You can apply on line at .hsvawl by completing the Adoption Application on the home page.

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
