Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed. Meet Maddy, a sweet 8-month-old mixed breed gal with a heart full of love! With her beautiful brown and white coat, this friendly girl is the perfect medium size at 36 lbs. and ready for cuddles. Maddy is more than ready to find her people to love forever. It is estimated that she will be a medium size dog of under 60 pounds when she is fully grown. Maddy loves to play with toys, is great with other dogs and bonds quickly to her humans once trust is established. She is also good around children. She is a shy gal and will need a patient owner who can give her the time and space she needs to be her best self. It will take her time to blossom but with gentle guidance, she will shine. Maddy is a bright and eager student, making great progress with her leash manners, crate training, and house training. She has not had the opportunity to meet a cat since coming into rescue. Her current favorite thing to do in her foster home is to take out every toy in the toy basket and vigorously play with each one for a good two minutes before moving on to the next one. Her second favorite thing to do to snuggle on the lap of her foster mom. She is a sweet darling and although not your typical lap size dog, Maddy does things in her own charming way. Since she is still a puppy, Maddy will thrive in a home with someone dedicated to continuing her training and socialization, helping her grow into the best dog she can be. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
