Dog Breed: Shepherd / Mixed. To adopt please fill out an adoption application. Sophie is a 2 ½ month old female shepherd mix who was abandoned with her littermates in rural TN. Sophie lives in the house with her foster family where she’s lovingly cared for while awaiting adoption. Happy, playful, outgoing puppy! Full of fun and life, very confident and never meets a stranger. Well-socialized, growing up around kids, cats and other dogs. Instruction has begun with crate training, housebreaking and leash walking. Estimated DOB is 6-1-25. Weighs about 18 pounds. Healthy, altered and utd on shots. This is a sweet puppy with a happy, loving temperament who will make a great companion for an active family who loves the breed. Here's a note from the foster mom: "AWESOME PUPPY! Sweet, loving and affectionate. It's so much fun watching her learn what toys and treats are for! She sleeps 6-7 hours in the crate at night, learning how to walk on a leash. Is very in tune with people, very intelligent and eager to please. Very nice pup, will be a great family dog." To adopt please fill out an adoption application. Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
