If you see a pet here, they are still available for adoption and you should apply through our adoption application on our website at .arf-il/adopt/application/ Biscuit is an 11 week old female Hound mix who weighs in at 12 pounds. This pup's adoption fee is $450. If you are still interested, please read more below. Biscuit is a very sweet and loving puppy. She looks and acts like a beagle so she may be a medium sized dog once full grown. She is eager to please and working on her potty training, sitting for a treat and what she can and can't play with. She is very smart and loves to eat. She is very social and enjoys playing with toys and fetching after them. She is so soft and loves being loved on and petted. Biscuit would do best in a home without too much noise as she can get scared by loud noises. She doesn't like being alone so we don't recommend leaving her for more than 2 hours at a time if possible - especially as a puppy. She would probably do great with children and other animals to play with. This pup is micro-chipped, up to date on all vaccinations, and spayed. The new family will be required to complete a basic obedience course of their choosing. Please note ARF does not approve applications for any puppy under 6 months of age to families that live outside of Illinois and/or beyond 100 miles of Wheaton or Glen Ellyn, IL. Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
