Description
Dog Breed: Terrier. Meet Penelope! - 1 year old Mixed Breed - 28 pounds - makes oinking sounds when eating treats Penelope is a spunky, little girl that loves to be around her people. She will follow you room to room and snuggle right next you while you’re working, reading, or watching tv. She sleeps well in her crate over night, and is still learning it is a safe space during the day. She would do well with a family who is home more often than not. Penelope has been doing great with house training but entering a new home there may be an adjustment period due to a change in routine. She is very treat motivated and has been learning the basics in her foster home (place, sit, come). Penelope lives in a foster home with a cat and get very overwhelmed when she sees him. She would probably do best in a house without cats, but if she were to live with another furry friend you’d want to make sure to keep an eye on her! She plays well with other dogs! Penelope has a unique quirk: her back left paw/leg is just a bit smaller than the others. Her foster mom says it reminds her of Finding Nemo’s “Lucky Fin”! But don’t worry, she doesn’t let it get in her way. It gives her a little extra character and her zoomies look a little slower than other dogs! She is spayed and up-to-date on vaccinations and is available for adoption on or after 8/24/25 through Paws Across Pittsburgh, Springdale, PA 15144, KL# 16182

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
