Description
Dog Breed: Hound / Mixed. BELLA - 8+ years old, friendly albeit nervous meeting new people, active. Bella is a return resident from VBACAC having been adopted almost two years ago. She sits again behind bars after having been found stray. She has short legs, a long body, floppy ears and a silly smile. She has some grey in her muzzle as well. Bella enjoys treats but might not take them at first. Bella is friendly when she knows you. It might take a little while for her to warm up to you but given that time and attention, she will surely be your best companion. Although Bella is 8+ years old, she still enjoys exercise, running around the yard, and going for walks. We're not sure how she feels about other dogs or kids so we will update this bio when we learn more. For now, pretty Bella (oxymoron, right?!?) is hanging in our small dog adoption kennel. Come on out to meet her!

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
