Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 550. Born around June 4th, Tony is an adorable terrier mix puppy with a big heart and a gentle nature. He’s a sweet, loving little guy who absolutely adores sitting in your lap and soaking up all the cuddles he can get. Tony enjoys playing with his littermates, but he’s also independent enough to take a break when he’s had enough playtime. He’s a curious pup, but a bit on the cautious side—always taking his time to check things out before diving in. In his crate, Tony is an excellent communicator—he only cries or barks when he needs something, like food or water. He’s already making great progress with potty training. While he still uses the pee pads in his playpen, he’s learning quickly with regular outdoor breaks. Tony will make a wonderful companion for a loving family who can give him the patience, training, and affection that every puppy needs. If you’re looking for a snuggly best friend who’s equal parts playful and sweet, Tony might just be the one! A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
