Dog Breed: Chihuahua / Rat Terrier / Mixed. Adoption Fee: 300. Chanel is a 9-year-old chihuahua/rat terrier mix with the sweetest, most gentle soul. She was found as a stray in Texas and has clearly been through a lot, but with patience and kindness, she is slowly beginning to trust and show her sparkle. When Chanel first arrived, she was very timid—frozen with fear and unsure of the world around her. But each day has been a beautiful step forward. By the end of her first week in foster care, she went from quietly trembling in her safe spot to wagging her tail, following her foster around, and even greeting her family at the door with the little dog pack. Her eyes now shine with hope, and she continues to blossom as she learns she is safe and loved. Chanel is crate trained, enjoys burrowing into soft blankets, and has a low energy level that makes her an easy, quiet companion. She’s still cautious with loud noises and sudden movements, so a calm, predictable environment would suit her best. While she hasn’t yet shown interest in toys, she loves gentle affection and will thrive with a family who allows her to come out of her shell at her own pace. Chanel does well with other dogs, especially calm, friendly ones who can show her the ropes and will need a dog companion in her adoptive home. She would do best with an experienced, patient adopter who understands shy dogs and is willing to let Chanel set the timeline for trust. If you’re looking for a tender, sensitive companion and have the patience to help a shy pup blossom, Chanel will reward you with the quietest but deepest kind of love. *This animal is a part of our “Seniors for Seniors” program where we offer senior adopters an opportunity to adopt an eligible pet at a discounted fee.* Adopting a senior dog is like getting a vintage car – it comes with character, a few extra quirks, and might need a bit more maintenance. Expect occasional tune ups at the vet for oil changes (aka meds), and embrace the fact that those 'normal lumps and bumps' are just part of the well-earned charm package! Ruff Start will share all known health information with adopters and recommendations to keep your senior dog in top shape. Chanel is from Texas. They arrive in Minnesota on 09/06/2025 and will need to be picked up from the Ruff Start Rescue office in Princeton, MN between the hours of 4:30 and 8pm. Please plan for their arrival accordingly as we cannot accommodate pickups outside of this time frame. Ruff Start’s veterinary suite is located in Princeton, MN, and, as the foster, you will be required to transport your dog to and from these vetting appointments.
