Meet Tippy Toes, part of our sweet litter of 8 Shepherd mix puppies—4 boys and 4 girls—rescued from a difficult hoarding situation. They were born June 15, 2025 and are now 9 weeks old, each weighing just about 2 lbs. Their mama, a 10-year-old Shepherd mix, is finally spayed and safe, and now it’s her babies’ turn to find loving families. Don’t let her name fool you—Tippy Toes may have had a little setback with a healing leg fracture, but this tough girl doesn’t let anything slow her down! Her vet says her leg is healing beautifully, and her playful spirit proves it—keeping her calm is nearly impossible because she’s always ready for action. Tippy Toes is strong, independent, and fearless, but she’s also a total sweetheart who loves to be scooped up for cuddles. She’ll happily snuggle in your arms after playtime and soak up all the affection she can get. She's crate trained and nearly potty trained. She's obedient and picking up manners quickly, like staying out of the kitchen during mealtimes. Tippy Toes is the perfect mix of brave adventurer and loving companion, and she’s going to grow into a confident, affectionate pup who will bring so much joy to her forever family. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
