Description
Dog Breed: Unknown breed. We found him on 6/29, no microchip, no tags, and no one has claimed him since then. He's a lovely pitbull/staffy of some kind, possibly 4-5 years old, 80 pounds, and generally well-behaved. But I believe he needs to be in a different home, as he seems to be reactive to some men, but not to women (not to all men, either, just some). He's usually well-behaved on walks and runs (and he runs well alongside my bike). He plays extremely well with our other dog. Crate-trained, house-trained, knows basic commands, even has good recall. He likes exercise morning and evening, and loves to play with other dogs (not cats, he got scratched by one and that was that), but is otherwise a lazy cuddlebug who spends much of the day on a dog bed, inside or out. I have vaccinated, neutered, and chipped him, and am just looking at finding him a better situation than what we can offer. **** Breed: American pit bull **** Pet Link: .nokillnetwork/adoption/pet_detail.php?petid=2187120&flag=1

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
