Description
Dog Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler (short coat). Location: VT Introducing the marvelous Markie! Markie is the sweetest 1 year old, 39 lb girl just waiting to wiggle her way into your heart. Her whole body wags when she sees you (or really anyone who looks her way) and she has not yet met a stranger. She loves everyone- young, old, and especially adores kids. She is interested and curious about everything you do, and typical to most cattle dogs, loves to be included in the action, whatever it might be. Markie was brought to the shelter with 7 other dogs, and while her past is a mystery, she has kept an ever-positive outlook and cannot wait to see what life brings to her. She has been perfect in a crate since the beginning and sleeps quietly all night as well as if left alone at home. She adores her foster ACD sister and loves to play, though is also respectful and responsive when her sister is over it. She has met many dogs on leash and has been curious and kind to all. She has good leash manners (though gets quite excited when squirrels appear) and has been hitting the trails daily with her foster parents; she will make an excellent hiking or running companion. Markie enjoys car rides and has hardly made a peep inside or out of the house. She continues to learn about personal space, as her exuberance for love can lead at times to jumping and excited face licking. She is house trained and clearly understands the expectation, though has had some submissive/excited urination when near the door and feeling anxious. This has gotten better each day in her foster home, and will likely resolve once she is settled. She does show a strong prey drive with squirrels and has not yet been around cats. Markie is spayed, microchipped, and current on all vaccinations and preventatives. She is an incredible, fun, devoted companion with so much love to give! Contact LawrenceSarah130gmail. Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
