Description
Dog Breed: Shepherd / Catahoula Leopard Dog (long coat). Meet Kovu! This 3-month-old Shepherd/Cattle Dog mix may share a name with the fierce lion prince from The Lion King II, but don’t worry—our Kovu is all heart. He was found abandoned in a creek here in Rohnert Park and is now ready to leave the ‘circle of creek life’ behind and start his happily ever after. Kovu is sweet, smart, and already showing he’s got a royal spirit. Like any young pup, he’ll need some training to grow into the mane man of your household—but with patience and love, he’s sure to be the ulti-mutt companion. We’re looking for foster-to-adopt homes in Sonoma County to help Kovu roar into his next chapter. Could you be the Simba to his story and give this pup his pride place in your home? Because one thing’s for sure… hakuna matata is a lot easier when you’ve got Kovu by your side.

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
