Description
Dog Breed: West Highland White Terrier Westie / Jack Russell Terrier (medium coat). Baby Girl is a beautiful pup who is looking for a home. Baby Girl is now happy in a NJ foster home. Baby Girl is a purebred wirehaired Jack Russell Terrier, but who knows what her father was! Everyone agrees she looks more like a West Highland Terrier than any other breed. Her owners are older and surrendered her because they cannot keep up with her activity level. She can be a little nervous around new people but it doesn't last very long. She fine with other small dogs, but afraid of larger ones. We think she would love to be cherished as your one and only doggie companion. She is better suited for older kids (teens) or an adult only home and Baby Girl prefers a home with no cats. She is housebroken and crate trained. Baby Girl is fixed, up to date on vaccines and tested negative for heartworm. Her adoption fee is $450. Adopting a dog is a commitment that will require annual veterinary care at a minimum, training, exercise, enrichment, etc. Pet care is not cheap or easy and adopters should consider the costs, time and training prior to adoption. After all these dogs have been through they deserve a loving, committed home. Apply to foster or adopt wagoninn.rescuegroups Baby Girls Foster Feature General Personality: Baby Girl is shy and timid on the initial meeting. After a few days, she is now 100% comfortable in the environment and has been loving, funny, obedient, playful, silly, and fun. She is still somewhat fearful of strangers, and as a result doesn't show her true personality on first meeting or at adoption events, but she is a little love. Daily Routine: Potty break and morning walk at 8, then playtime with balls and other toys. She likes watching the world go by, and is alert much of the day... she even plays with her toys independently. 12:30 potty break is important. Dinner and walk at 5, more playtime and snuggle time in the evening. Nighttime potty trip about 10:30, then to bed in her crate. Is the dog housebroken? Yes Behavior Around Dogs, Cats, or Kids: Not a fan of medium to large dogs, and somewhat indifferent to smaller dogs. She would do best being the only pet in the home. Energy Rating (1 = very high; 5 = very low): 2 Leash Walking Rating (1 = difficult; 5 = perfect): 2 Leash Behaviors: She prefers quiet walks where she can not be bothered while she explores or smells the flowers. She LOVES squirrels and bunnies and will jump three times her height up a tree in pursuit! She's a joy to walk and can go for miles on those little legs. Crate Rating When Left Alone: Cries and/or barks for a few minutes and then calms down. Does the dog sleep through the night? Yes What makes him/her happy? Playing fetch with her mini Kong ball and other toys, going on walks, and snuggling with lots of petting and ear scritches. What makes him/her nervous or unhappy? She is nervous when approached by people, large dogs and a little jumpy at loud noises. But will settle when cradled by her trusted person. Other Quirks: She is timid and shy at first but once she trusts you, she's a totally different dog and the complete package! Other Displayed Behaviors: She displays her boundaries vocally to other dogs. Current Walking Device: Regular leash and martingale collar Currently Eating: Purina Pro Plan for small dogs.

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
