Dog Breed: Unknown breed. IN NEED OF LOCAL FOSTER OR ADOPTER / AVAILABLE FOR FOSTER TO ADOPT Meet Apollo (Apollo & brother Polo)! Apollo is 7 months old, male (approx. DOB 12-19-24), 40+ lbs., vetted, is or will be neutered and micro-chipped. Apollo and his brother Polo were found in SC as homeless abandoned strays to fend for themselves. We found Apollo on his last day and scooped him up! Polo was spoken for, we thought, until thanksfully we found out he was never picked up! We scooped him up too before it was too late! From his SC Foster: "He has learned some basic commands and is house and crate trained. He is good with dogs of all sizes! His favorite thing is to be close to his humans getting all the love and attention." Apollo is still a young boy who is eager to learn! He is good with other dogs, likely good with cats, and is very social! Stay tuned for more information as Apollo is a new rescue! A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
