Sheldon is the kind of little gentleman who makes you wonder how you ever lived without him. At just 11 pounds, this Shih Tzu is compact enough to tuck under your arm but full of enough love to fill a whole house. He’s friendly with everyone he meets, patient, gentle, and has perfected the art of being the perfect lap companion. His favorite activities include eating (with great enthusiasm), strolling politely on walks, snoozing in cozy spots, and happily accepting treats. Sheldon doesn’t bark much—just enough to politely request to be let back inside after his outdoor breaks—and he’s very well-mannered around the house. He’s not the type to get into mischief; your shoes, remotes, and snacks are safe in his presence. While Sheldon is crate trained, he does make his opinions known with a little barking before he settles in. He sleeps soundly through the night and is on a good potty routine with regular outdoor breaks. He knows several helpful commands, including “come,” “down,” “outside,” and “go potty,” which makes him an easy housemate. Sheldon gets along well with other dogs, is good with kids, and is the kind of even-tempered, affectionate pup who fits right into any household. He may not win any awards for high energy, but he’s a champion in the categories of cuddling, companionship, and overall charm. If you’re looking for a loving little guy who is as low-maintenance as he is delightful, Sheldon is waiting to bring calm, joy, and a lot of heart into your home. Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. FOSTER CARE: All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience. NUTRITION: Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.
