Dog Breed: Shepherd / Mixed. Adoption Fee: 185.00. Arthur is one of the kindest, most gentle dogs you’ll ever meet. He was recently found abandoned and severely underweight at a local soccer park. Despite his rough start, he has proven to be incredibly loving, eager to please, and so quick to trust again. Since coming into foster care, Arthur has blossomed. He’s partly housetrained and has adapted beautifully to living with other dogs. In fact, he quickly won over my two big-personality pups and now enjoys their company. Arthur is still learning that food will always be there for him, so mealtimes are exciting! But even with that, he’s gentle and so easy to have around. He has a calm, sweet spirit and is ready to be someone’s loyal best friend. His energy levels will likely pick up as he gains weight, but it's clear he wants to be your best friend and demonstrates a willingness to obey. He sits for treats and goes into his crate with no issue. Although it says he's 4+ yrs. old, many who have met him think he's still under a year. His fur is SUPER soft and he has a young face. Arthur is looking for a forever family who will give him the love, stability, and full belly he deserves. Could that be you?

A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
