Description
Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed. Strong name, soft heart—meet Xena! Xena came to us from the South, and while she may have a mighty name, she’s truly a gentle, loving soul. This sweet girl is housebroken, crate trained, and working on her leash skills (she’s a bit of a puller). She has a huge heart and adores being with her people—but she does struggle with separation anxiety. Xena feels most secure when she can be in the same room with you or at least see you nearby. Her favorite things include being close to her humans, yummy food, and snuggling up in soft beds. She doesn’t enjoy being left alone and can be a little dog-selective, so she’d do best with a family that can be home most of the day and is willing to help her continue working through her anxiety. Xena is affectionate, loyal, and has so much love to give. She may jump when she’s excited, but she’s always friendly with people and could do well with kids who understand her enthusiastic personality. If you’re looking for a devoted companion who will happily follow you from room to room and fill your life with unconditional love, Xena is ready to be your warrior princess and best friend. Stop by our weekly adoption events on Saturdays from 12-4 pm at 372 Townline Road in Mundelein, IL 60060 to meet our adoptable animals in person. Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
