Description
Dog Breed: Great Dane. LOCATION: Saint Paul, NC DOB: 06/20/2019 Meet Duchess, a beautiful senior fawn Great Dane whose name suits her perfectly—she’s regal, loyal, and will quickly become the queen of your heart. Duchess is happiest when she’s right by your side, whether that’s curled up next to you on the couch, nudging her way into bed, or even following you to the bathroom just to make sure she’s not left out. She’s deeply bonded to her people and doesn’t like being left alone; if you step outside without her, she’ll let you know with her best howl until you come back. At home, Duchess takes her role as protector seriously. She keeps a close eye on the windows and alerts you to anyone who might be around. Strangers, especially men, make her uneasy inside the house, but with patience and time she has warmed up to some female visitors. Out and about, she’s more relaxed and simply enjoys being with her person. She walks nicely with a head collar, though she can pull if she spots another dog she doesn’t like. Duchess is dog selective—she coexisted with another Great Dane in the past and has had mixed reactions to other dogs since then. For her comfort and safety, she’d do best as an only dog or possibly with a calm, well-matched companion. She hasn’t lived with cats but shows curiosity when she hears them, so a cat-free home may be best. She does wonderfully with older, dog-savvy kids and teens, though little ones aren’t a match for her size and playful bursts of energy. This girl has the sweetest quirks. She’ll boop you awake if you dare to sleep past her morning routine, lean all her weight into you for pets, and sometimes sit with just her back end on the couch while her front paws stay planted on the floor. She isn’t a fan of rain but will put up with her raincoat when necessary. Loud noises like yelling, fireworks, or storms scare her, so a quiet, calm household would suit her perfectly. The ideal home for Duchess is a peaceful one, without a lot of visitors or activity, and with someone who is home most of the time to give her the companionship she craves. She’ll thrive with a gentle, patient adopter who understands giant breeds and is ready to give her the love and security she deserves in her golden years. ========================= To apply to adopt me, please fill out the application form! form.jotform/51994996709176 . Overview:
The Great Dane is an impressive and regal breed, often dubbed the "Apollo of Dogs" for its dignified stature and noble appearance. Originating in Germany, where it was historically bred for hunting boar, this giant breed is renowned for its immense size and striking presence. Physically, Great Danes are characterized by their tall, muscular build, short coat (available in various colors like fawn, brindle, black, blue, and harlequin), and expressive eyes. Despite their formidable size, they possess a surprisingly gentle and affectionate temperament, making them wonderful family companions. They are known for being patient with children and generally get along well with other pets. While their size might suggest otherwise, Great Danes can adapt to apartment living if provided with sufficient daily exercise, as they are not overly energetic indoors. However, prospective owners should be aware of certain health considerations, including a predisposition to bloat (gastric dilatation-volvulus), hip dysplasia, and certain heart conditions, necessitating careful breeding and regular veterinary check-ups. Overall, a Great Dane offers a loving and loyal addition to the right home.
