Hi, I’m Archie, a 4 month old, red-coated Lab mix, and I’ll charm you with my sweet face and melt your heart with my snuggles! • I’m a great playmate for other dogs, and with a slow introduction, I warm up to new friends quickly. • I’m fully potty trained! I love being outside, and I respond well to “no,” “good boy,” “potty,” and “outside.” I’ve already mastered “sit” and “come.” I’m very smart and learn quickly! • I love chew toys and bones, but don’t worry—I won’t eat your shoes as long as I have plenty of toys to keep me busy. • I’m very food motivated, but I do great with a slow feeder and I really enjoy treats for being a good boy. • During meals, I’ll happily lay at your feet. If I get curious about what you’re eating, I listen to “off.” • I love all the people I meet, especially kids, leashed walks to sniff every smell, snuggling on the couch, and I sleep all night in my crate without making a sound. How could you resist me? I’m the total package and would be honored to be your next companion!

In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics.
