Description

Dog Breed: Great Dane. Meet Duke (SC)— The Gentle Giant with a Heart of Gold Duke (SC) is a 2–3 year old Great Dane who’s rewriting his story one tail wag at a time. Found as a stray and heartbreakingly emaciated, this sweet boy was scooped up and given a second chance by our rescue team. He’s now under the loving care of our veterinary partner, getting stronger every day — and winning hearts along the way. Despite his rough start, Duke is pure love. He adores people and gets along beautifully with other dogs. (Though, we’ll admit — he’s hilariously intimidated by one tiny pup at the shelter. Big guy, small fears. We get it, Duke.) Duke’s ideal home is one filled with kindness, patience, and maybe a cozy couch to stretch those long legs. He’s ready to be someone’s loyal companion, snuggle buddy, and best friend. Ready to give Duke the forever home he deserves? Apply to adopt at .rescuedogsrocknyc If you would like to adopt Duke (SC), and invite her into your comfortable, loving home as a family member well loved and safe, please put your application in here: .rescuedogsrocknyc Please also be sure to reference this pet's name as Duke (SC) in case of duplicate names within the rescue. Thank you! RDR's adoption fees include the cost of spay/neuter/microchip at an RDR-approved facility, whether completed before adoption or if deferred because the pet is too young or has a medical issue. All pets are also current on age-appropriate vaccines at the time of adoption. Given technical constraints on this database, this pet's location may not be as listed here. We can, however, provide transport support for pets in foster at a considerable distance from the adopter.

Great Dane

A.K.A.: German Mastiff, Deutsche Dogge, Dänische Dogge, Tigerdogge, Ulmer Dogge, Englische Dogge, Grand Danois, Dogue Allemand, Great German Dog, Apollo of Dogs, King of Hounds, Gentle Giant, Dane
Overview:

The Great Dane is an impressive and regal breed, often dubbed the "Apollo of Dogs" for its dignified stature and noble appearance. Originating in Germany, where it was historically bred for hunting boar, this giant breed is renowned for its immense size and striking presence. Physically, Great Danes are characterized by their tall, muscular build, short coat (available in various colors like fawn, brindle, black, blue, and harlequin), and expressive eyes. Despite their formidable size, they possess a surprisingly gentle and affectionate temperament, making them wonderful family companions. They are known for being patient with children and generally get along well with other pets. While their size might suggest otherwise, Great Danes can adapt to apartment living if provided with sufficient daily exercise, as they are not overly energetic indoors. However, prospective owners should be aware of certain health considerations, including a predisposition to bloat (gastric dilatation-volvulus), hip dysplasia, and certain heart conditions, necessitating careful breeding and regular veterinary check-ups. Overall, a Great Dane offers a loving and loyal addition to the right home.
