Description
Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed. Meet Swandell aka Rusty! Rusty is young at only nine months old . Rhodesian Ridgeback or Vizsla mix breed. Energetic, quick to learn and loyal. Rusty is a Velcro dog that will follow you everywhere. He is a little shy at first, but once he warms up and you become his pack, he will be constantly by your side. His shyness is a result of many months spent in an overcrowded shelter in West Virginia. His confidence has grown & is now looking for a family that can allow him to mature and live his last few puppy months the way it should have been. He loves to snuggle and desires affection from people. Just sit on the couch and he will be up with you instantly sitting on your lap. He has gone on camping trips, sits by the fire. Gone on walks in the woods without a leash. Rusty is good with all other dogs. He is very submissive. He has shown no aggression at all. He does not chase the cats or the chickens at the foster home. Rusty is 29 pounds and a medium perfect size dog. The vet said he will not get any bigger. He will do well in a multi dog family that he can learn from his siblings, but would also flourish in a single Dog home where your love and patience will lead him. He is mostly house broken but has the occasional accident. Paws Across Pittsburgh, Springdale, PA 15144 KL# 16182

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
