Description
Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog. DESCRIPTION: Cleo Grace’s journey hasn’t been easy. She was found as a stray and brought to a local shelter, carrying the weight of a difficult past. Her ears tell part of her story—one bears the scars of chronic infection, and the other shows signs of fly strikes. But while her body carries reminders of hardship, her heart is ready for healing. Cleo Grace is like a little seed waiting to blossom. At first, she can be shy and unsure, but once she feels safe, she leans in close and buries her head into her handler’s chest—her way of saying “thank you for keeping me safe.” Because new experiences can overwhelm her, Cleo Grace will do best in a quiet, calm home with patient adopters who can offer gentle guidance, structure, and consistency. Keeping her safe and secure will be a top priority, as she is still considered a high flight risk due to her past. With time, trust, and encouragement, she will thrive. She will soon begin a confidence-building training program with our rescue, where she’ll learn that people can be trusted and life can be joyful. Cleo Grace is safe now, surrounded by love and support, and we’re committed to giving her every chance to succeed. All she needs is her forever family—the one who will nurture her, help her bloom, and finally give her the happy ending she deserves.

Overview:
The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
