Description

Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog. DESCRIPTION: Not all mothers get to bring their babies into the world surrounded by love, safety, and comfort. Sadly, Moonlight and her nine puppies — affectionately known as the Island Litter — were found in a heartbreaking state: malnourished, filthy, flea-infested, and utterly neglected. Confiscated by animal control and placed in a shelter, this vulnerable family was at high risk. But thanks to the quick work of compassionate rescuers and foster volunteers, they were pulled to safety. From the moment Moonlight arrived in foster care, her strength and sweetness shone through. Despite the suffering she endured, she remained attentive to her pups and incredibly responsive to her caregivers. With medical care, nutritious food, and gentle handling, Moonlight and her babies began to heal — body and soul. Today, Moonlight is thriving. She is smart, alert, affectionate, and energetic — everything you’d expect from a classic German Shepherd. She’s always ready for a new adventure and loves interactive time with her people. Her resilient spirit, loyal nature, and engaging personality make her truly special. As a dog with drive, Moonlight loves toys and activity — but she also has a strong prey instinct. For that reason, she is not a candidate for a home with cats or other small animals. However, she is social with other dogs and may do well with a compatible canine companion. To give Moonlight the best start in her new life, MAGSR has partnered with Mason Dixon K9 to help her build foundational obedience skills. She is currently working on her training, and continued structured training will be essential in helping her grow into the confident, well-balanced dog we know she can be. Her ideal family will provide guidance, consistency, and plenty of love. Moonlight has already endured more than most dogs experience in a lifetime — and she’s come through with grace and heart. Now, she deserves the very best: a forever home filled with security, adventure, and unconditional love. Apply today to bring Moonlight home. Help her leave the past behind and step fully into the bright, joyful future she’s been waiting for.

German Shepherd Dog

A.K.A.: Alsatian, Alsatian Wolf Dog, Shepherd Dog, GSD, Deutscher Schäferhund, Schäferhund, Berger Allemand, Pastore Tedesco, Perro de Pastor Alemán, Alsatian Dog
Overview:

The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
