Description
Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (medium coat). Ronan's favorite book is The Story of Ferdinand because he and Ferdinand have a lot in common. Ronan hasn't quite learned how to be as gentle as Ferdinand ALL the time, but he has mastered taking treats gently and sniffing all sorts of things (including flowers!) He will need some support learning how to walk gently on a leash, but promises to reward you with lots of cuddles. OTHER PETS: Ronan has reacted defensively when dogs get aggressive at his kennel entrance, but while meeting non-aggressive dogs is moderately social and tolerant. He did not have much interest in playing with other dogs but was happy to coexist peacefully them. [Case-By-Case (Must Meet First)] OWNER EXPERIENCE: Ronan's best fit would be with someone who has positive reinforcement experience handling strong dogs. [Some Experience] KIDS: Ronan is an affable dog who is uncomfortable with some handling but will independently solicit attention because he enjoys pets and butt scratches. He is a strong dog and should not be walked by those unable to physically handle his strength, he has also exhibited mild guarding over possessions while here at the shelter, but will trade for them. Ronan should live in a house with older teens or adults. [15+ / Dog Savvy (Must Meet First)] ACTIVITY LEVEL: Ronan enjoys time outside and in his excitment he pulls on his leash while out for walks. He is very interested in exploring his environment and will likely be a super walking companion for all those step counting humans out there. With positive reinforcement training he can learn loose-leash skills, and accompany his humans on all sorts of adventures! Regular exercise and plenty of mental enrichment will help meet all his needs. [Good Walking Buddy] VETERINARY CARE: [Routine] LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Ronan bond with his new owner as well as help him learn important life skills, including loose-leash walking and maybe some fun tricks!
