This adorable hound mix earned her flight wings through the amazing Pilots for Paws program, a group of volunteer pilots who generously use their own planes, time, and resources to fly dogs from overcrowded shelters in rural areas to rescues where they have a better chance at adoption. Thanks to their life-saving mission, Zoie landed safely in the care of Pet Rescue By Judy, where her second chance truly began. Zoie is as sweet as she is cute. With her soft eyes, hound dog ears, and gentle spirit, she quickly wins hearts wherever she goes. She’s friendly, curious, and loves attention—whether it’s going for a walk, sniffing around the yard, or simply relaxing beside someone who loves her. We’re still learning more about her personality each day, but one thing is certain—this girl is ready to leave her past behind and find a family who will give her the love and care she deserves. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
