Description

Dog Breed: Maltese / Poodle (Miniature) (medium coat). Sterling is a very fluffy buff/beige Maltipoo puppy. Sterling’s gorgeous, fluffy coat will undoubtedly need regular grooming as he gets older. He was born in a breeding situation, so he hasn’t had a lot of human interaction until now. He is slowly learning to trust humans, but is still very hesitant to come up to us on his own. With a little patience, we are able to grab him and carry him where we need him to go. Indoors, Sterling sleeps with his two siblings in a crate. Once crated, he sleeps quietly through the night. He also doesn’t bark much at all throughout the day. All three of them do keep the crate clean if kept in it for less than a few hours, but overnight is still a little long for them. During the day, the puppies alternate between a pen indoors, a larger pen outdoors, a crate (if we need to leave the house for a couple hours), and in the evenings they get free run of 2-3 rooms indoors. They love the variety and do very well in all situations. We make sure there are very regular outdoor visits, but they are still a long ways from being fully housetrained. We recommend potty training using a small crate and an outdoor area consistently. We have begun leash training. Sterling is learning quickly and does well. He is very smart – and therefore does need to be watched. He has figured out how to escape our pen setup a couple times, and we needed to reinforce areas where we joined multiple pens together. With time and some regular socialization, we feel Sterling will make an excellent pet for all types of families. He has met cats (with no notable reaction) and really enjoys other dogs. He loves to play with other dogs, but doesn’t seem to depend on them as much as some puppies do. He could do well in a variety of settings, with or without other pets. He hasn’t met kids yet but we see no reason why he wouldn’t do well with patient, gentle handling. Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue.
