Description
Dog Breed: Unknown breed (medium coat). Adoption Fee: 250. Turtle is a sweet, brindle female rescued from a hoarding case with almost 20 other dogs. She was underweight, but is eating well and gaining weight rapidly. She is settling in to her new foster home and is very vocal. She talks when she is happy, she talks when she wants something, and she talks when she wants out of her crate. She is doing well with crate and potty training and gets along well with the resident dogs (and cats) in the foster home. She is learning to walk on a leash, has a good grasp on sit, and has no interest in stay. :-) (We are working on that.) She is current on vaccines, is heartworm negative, and has been dewormed. She is on Interceptor Plus and Credelio. We will have her scheduled for spay surgery soon and will update after surgery is completed.

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
