Description
Dog Breed: Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie. Adoption Fee: $350.00. Scroll down to see more pictures of this dog. Trooper is available for adoption. He is 5 to 6 years old and weighs 10 lbs. His adoption fee is $350.00. Trooper was found by the Ephrata Police Department after being left in the hills of Ephrata, PA. He’s about 5–6 years old, and while it’s clear life hasn’t always been easy for him, you’d never know it from the way he is now. Even though Trooper is blind, he doesn’t let that slow him down. He carefully explores the world with so much curiosity, and he’s even learning how to walk on a leash — taking it step by step and getting braver every day. He gets along well with other dogs, and while he can feel a little anxious if left alone in the backyard, with a bit of reassurance he settles down and does just fine. What Trooper loves most is simply being close. He’s the sweetest cuddle buddy, always wanting to be right next to you, soaking up love and giving it right back. Watching him learn what it feels like to be safe, cared for, and loved has been such a joy. Trooper is staying with Yurie in Philadelphia, PA.

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
