Description
Dog Breed: Terrier (short coat). Meet Dakota! This sweet 2-year-old terrier mix is a survivor with a heart full of love. She arrived in our care with her newborn puppies from a homeless encampment where life was incredibly tough, and despite everything she’s been through, Dakota is remarkably friendly and potty trained! She may be a little shy at first, but once she gets comfortable, she’ll be your constant companion, following you everywhere. Dakota is playful, energetic, and loves running around with the other dogs, especially as she teaches her puppies the ropes. She's spayed, microchipped, and up-to-date on all her shots. Now all Dakota needs is a loving forever home where she can thrive and share all the affection she has to offer. Will you be the one to give her that?

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
