Description
Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Please note that we can not guarantee the age, expected weight or breed of any animal. What we provide is our best estimates based on our experience and the information provided by the our medical partners. If breed and eventual size are of great importance we suggest looking into a breed specific rescue or adopting a full grown animal. Unless otherwise noted, ALL animals are fostered and available for adoption on Long Island, NY. Speedy is such a little sweetheart! He can be a bit shy at first and may take a few minutes to show his affectionate side, but he warms up quickly and makes fast friends. Once he feels comfortable, he loves to snuggle in your lap and give sweet kisses. True to his name, Speedy is full of fun—he adores toys and will happily toss them around to entertain himself. He also enjoys interacting with other dogs through the fence and would likely enjoy canine friends. He’s a nice balance of playful and cuddly, knowing just when to be silly and when to relax. Speedy isn’t overly yappy, but he may whine if he feels like he’s not getting enough attention. With his unique fur color and handsome little face, he’s hard not to fall in love with. This charming guy is ready to find his person—and if you’re a Chihuahua lover like me, you’ll adore him too!

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
