Description
Dog Breed: Unknown breed. Happy is a 1-1.5 year old Shepherd mix that we took in to foster. He's incredibly friendly - very affectionate with adults and children, and good with other animals (we have both multiple dogs and cats in our household). Happy greatly enjoys chewing on a rope bone or Kong filled with treats, and he very much prefers being in very close contact with people. With our other animals and some personal changes, we're beyond our capability to continue caring for Happy. It's become clear that while he is fine with other animals, he would really thrive with a family where he can be the dedicated pet, or perhaps share space with just another cat or small dog. He really craves extensive 1:1 time with people, and with our other cats and dogs, that's tough to provide. We have fostered a number of cats and dogs in the past and have been able to find a balance, but Happy's level of anxiety when he has any separation from a human being is incredibly acute. We have looked into our immediate local resources, but are not keen to put him into a no-kill shelter, which is the situation in our county. Transport is not an issue - we can bring Happy to pretty much any facility or location in the Carolinas, and possibly beyond, particularly if someone is able to meet part-way. **** Breed: Unknown **** Pet Link: .nokillnetwork/adoption/pet_detail.php?petid=2187582&flag=1

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
