Description
Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). Kona is an intelligent pup who shines once sheâs out of the kennel and in a calm space. While she can be quite reactive in her kennelâbarking or jumping when overstimulatedâitâs just her way of expressing stress in a loud, busy environment. Once leashed and out the door, Kona settles in and shows her true self: curious, alert, and eager to explore. She walks with enthusiasm (and sometimes a little pulling!), but responds well to gentle guidance. She enjoys enrichment games like snuffle mats, knows sit, and is happy to work for treats. Kona can be selective with new people and needs time to build trust, so sheâll thrive in a patient, adult-only home with a steady routine.Kona prefers to be the only pet and will do best in a peaceful environment where she can decompress and bond at her own pace. With the right home, she has all the potential to blossom into a loyal and loving companion. I'm available for a 10 day adoption trial! Learn more about our adoption process.

Overview:
The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
