Dog Breed: Chihuahua / Dachshund / Mixed. Adoption Fee: 450. Chico’s life was turned upside down when his owner was deported, leaving him and his siblings behind. Despite the big change, Chico has held onto his gentle, affectionate nature. He’s a small, sweet, and loving dog who bonds easily with people—friendly with everyone he meets, though a little on the timid side at first. Chico enjoys car rides, is leash and crate trained, and loves curling up as a lap dog. Playful but not over the top, he’s happiest with moderate activity and plenty of companionship. Outdoors, Chico can get vocal—he’ll bark at deer or join in if other dogs are barking. Like many small dogs, he may mark when around male dogs, and he does have a tendency to chase small animals outside. These quirks aside, he’s a very easy companion who simply wants to be near his people. Chico would enjoy another playful dog his size in the home, but would also do okay without a companion. Chico is really just looking for adopters who appreciate both his affectionate side and his little bursts of mischief! Chico is from Texas. They arrive in Minnesota on 9/20/2025 and will need to be picked up from the Ruff Start Rescue office in Princeton, MN between the hours of 9am and noon. Please plan for their arrival accordingly as we cannot accommodate pickups outside of this time frame. Since they haven’t arrived yet, they are available exclusively through Ruff Start’s Foster to Adopt (FTA) Program. Click here to learn more about the FTA program. Once they get to Minnesota, they might require further veterinary care. Ruff Start’s veterinary suite is located in Princeton, MN, and, as the foster, you will be required to transport your dog to and from these vetting appointments.
