Description
Dog Breed: Chihuahua / Rat Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 550. Meet Skipper! Skipper is a sweet 2-year-old, 14-pound Chihuahua mix with a heart of gold. He came to us from a small impound in Texas and is ready to find a family of his own. This little guy has plenty of spunk and energy, but because he was diagnosed with heartworm, it’s important to keep his activity at a safe, manageable level while he undergoes treatment. Don’t worry—heartworm isn’t contagious to other pets, and Ruff Start Rescue will cover the cost of his treatment through our foster-to-adopt program. Skipper will also be neutered as part of his adoption. A little about Skipper: Loves walks and does great on leash Enjoys playing with balls (though he hasn’t quite mastered fetch!) Comfortable in his crate Independent and low-maintenance Gets along well with men, women, kids, and even cats Big fan of snuggles and “hard cuddles” Expert blanket-nest builder Not very food motivated, but he does eat kibble, small dog canned food, and especially enjoys The Farmer’s Dog meals Still figuring out his favorite snacks—he likes cheese but is shy about taking treats Currently marks, which should improve after neutering Skipper’s foster mom is still learning more about his personality every day, but one thing is clear: he is affectionate, loving, and eager to bond with his forever family. He’ll thrive with a bit of training, consistency, and either a fenced-in yard or leash walks so he can safely sniff and explore. If you’re looking for a loyal little companion who will return your love tenfold, Skipper might just be the one for you! Skipper is from Texas. This pet is currently undergoing treatment for heartworm disease. Activity must be restricted for several weeks during recovery. RSR will cover the full cost of treatment. RSR will provide heartworm preventatives until the retest is due. The adopter will be responsible for scheduling the retest and obtaining any follow-up prescriptions through their veterinarian. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract.
