She has a soft spot for splashing in water, chasing toys and romping around with her dog friends. Her energy is infectious, and her love for adventure shines through in everything she does. Once you’re in her circle, she’ll shower you with affection and bubbly charm. Reagan came to the ASPCA Behavioral Rehabilitation Center after being rescued from a natural disaster, and she was struggling to connect with the world around her. She has since completed our program, though she is still a little cautious when meeting new people — with some time and patience, she’ll be soaking up the love in no time! After a nice walk and a little playtime, she’ll be leaning in for pets like you’ve known each other forever. Reagan’s ideal day includes a splash in the creek, a romp with her dog pals and some well-earned snuggles with her favorite humans. She’s looking for someone who appreciates a little adventure, a lot of love and a dog who is learning to trust the world one joyful step at a time. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
