Description
Dog Breed: Shepherd. Please contact Angela for more information about this pet. Meet Black Jack, an exceptional young dog with a heart of gold. He first appeared on the driveway of a kind elderly woman, hungry and thirsty, when he was about 5 months old. Despite efforts to locate his original owners, no one came forward, and now he’s ready to find the loving forever home he deserves. Black Jack is loyal, loving, and obedient. He thrives on hikes, loves a good game of fetch, and has the drive and smarts to excel as a search and rescue dog, service dog, or simply as the perfect family companion. He is about 8 to 9 months old, weighs 76 pounds, and is a striking black shepherd mix with a touch of white on his belly and toes. He has been neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and heartworm tested. Black Jack is currently in Tulsa, Oklahoma, but transport can be arranged at the adopter’s request and expense. If you’d like to meet this gem of a dog, please contact his guardian angel, Michelle Johnson, at dogzinneedyahoo or 760-390-8973.

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
