Cute scruffy little guy seeks fresh start! DIEGO NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: Diego Best Guess for Breed: Terrier/Yorkie Mix Best Guess for Age: 3.5 Years as of 9/9/25 SEX: Male Approximate Weight: 9.8 pounds Gets Along With: Other Dogs! We haven't seen them with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! Currently Living at: Puerto Rico Shelter and arriving in DC soon! Check out this video of Diego: youtube/shorts/2PoOd9QvLsw. Special adoption considerations: Dogs from Puerto Rico have a major transition to go through when they arrive and will need humans who are very committed to socialization. We think Diego would do best with either a resident dog or a family who can make sure he/she can go on walks regularly with other dogs, visit the dog park, or go to doggie daycare to learn the ropes. Diego is Looking For: At just over 9lbs, this little gentleman a is the perfect size for cuddles on the couch or tagging along for adventures. Diego’s adorable scruffy beard makes him quite the little showstopper, but it’s his personality that will truly win you over. Diego is past the puppy chaos stage, but still has plenty of energy for fun sniffy walks and playtime. With his small size, he’s well-suited for many types of homes – including apartments. If you’re looking for a devoted, loving friend who will brighten every day, Diego might just be your perfect match! What My Foster Says About Me: Diego is small, scruffy, super cute and has been doing well around our dogs and is socializing well. Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training. TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter. Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
