Description

Dog Breed: Chihuahua (short coat). Meet Kiku! Kiku is a chihuahua mix and she's about two years old. Kiku is a big lover and one of her favorite activities is to snuggle up with her people and get some belly rubs. She is great on a leash and has pretty good recall as well. Kiku does tend to bark at other dogs (we're working on it!) and is very interested in squirrels. Kiku is fully house-trained and will stare deeply into your eyes if she needs to go out. She is fine to be left alone at home -- no chewing, scratching, or whining. She does well around young children but does sometimes need to take a break from them. She's good at removing herself from situations that are a bit overwhelming. Kiku would likely do best if she were the only dog in the home. She unfortunately doesn't get along with cats. Kiku currently takes some medication for anxiety and allergies, but taking pills is not a problem. She comes running with her tail wagging when she hears the bottles! Kiku is so excited to find her furever home -- could it be yours? Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Adoption fee: $525.00

Overview:

The Chihuahua, a captivating breed known for its diminutive size, boasts an ancient and somewhat mysterious origin, with most theories pointing to Mexico as its birthplace, potentially descending from the "Techichi," a small companion dog of the Toltec civilization. Physically, they are easily recognizable by their small, compact bodies, large expressive eyes, and erect ears, appearing in both smooth and long-coated varieties, showcasing a vast array of colors and markings. Despite their tiny stature, Chihuahuas possess a big personality; they are often described as spirited, alert, and fiercely loyal to their owners, sometimes displaying a bold and confident demeanor. While their small size makes them exceptionally well-suited for apartment living, they thrive in homes where they receive ample attention and mental stimulation. They can be good family pets for older children who understand how to interact gently with a small dog, but their delicate build makes them less suitable for boisterous toddlers. Regarding health, Chihuahuas can be prone to certain conditions like patellar luxation, heart problems, and dental issues, making regular veterinary check-ups crucial for their well-being.
