I’m a Great Pyrenees by breed, but a pocket-sized version by design—like someone ordered a majestic mountain dog and accidentally clicked “compact edition". I was born around June 2021, and I’m sweet, gentle, and a little shy. I arrived at the rescue with my lady friend Joyce and our eight puppies (Yes, eight. I’m not saying I deserve a medal, but I wouldn’t turn one down). Now I’m ready to retire from dad duty and figure out what life looks like when you’re not responsible for a small army of fluffballs. I’m a soft-hearted guy with a calm spirit, the sort who prefers quiet companionship over loud parties. But let’s get this out of the way: I’m not what you’d call “leash-savvy.” It feels a little strange, like I’m supposed to waltz while someone else leads. But with a little patience, I promise to get the rhythm down. I’ve got the kind of soulful eyes that say, “I may not fetch, but I will absolutely listen to your podcast with you.” I could happily be your one and only or share a home with another calm, respectful dog who can show me how to be a little braver. Cats, however, are a hard pass. I respect their mystery, but I prefer my companions less—judgmental. What I’m really looking for is someone who gets me. Someone who doesn’t mind that I’m not the life of the party, but who sees the quiet loyalty in a dog who prefers the sidelines. If you’re into soft fur, slow trust, and dogs who look like they’ve read your diary but would never tell — I might be your guy. Great Pyrenees

A.K.A.: Pyrenean Mountain Dog, Patou, Chien de Montagne des Pyrénées, Pyrenean, Big White Dog, Bear Dog, Gentle Giant, Great Pyr, Pyr
Overview:

The Great Pyrenees is a majestic and ancient breed, originating in the Pyrenean mountains between France and Spain, where they served as formidable livestock guardians. Physically, they are large, powerful dogs, easily recognized by their thick, double coat, typically white (though sometimes marked with badger, grey, or tan), and a distinctive "double dewclaw" on their hind legs. Despite their imposing size, their temperament is generally calm, gentle, and remarkably patient, making them excellent companions. They possess a natural protectiveness, which translates to a watchful eye over their families and property. While loving and tolerant with children, their size and barking tendencies make them less suited for small apartment living; a home with a yard is ideal. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, patellar luxation, and certain eye conditions, emphasizing the importance of responsible breeding. Their independent nature also means they require consistent, positive reinforcement training.
