Description
Dog Breed: Schnauzer / Mixed. Adoption Fee: 395. All interested people should submit an adoption application as their first step. Hi there, I’m Levi —a 10 lb scruffy ball of charm and mischief all packed into one year of life! I’m housebroken (thank you very much ✨), and I take my toy-collecting duties very seriously. I love to play with other dogs especially a good game of chase—but here’s the deal: I’ll happily chase, but don’t even think about chasing me. Rules are rules. I get along great with other dogs, but honestly? I’d also be perfectly content as the center of attention in a one-dog household. After all, who wouldn’t want a personal lap-warmer who also doubles as a snack-time shadow? (Yes, I’m absolutely that dog who politely insists on being in your lap whenever food is involved.) I adore people, though I can be a little shy at first—especially with men. I might flinch if you move too fast, but don’t worry, I’m not a biter. I just need a little time to figure out you’re safe. Once I trust you, though, I’ll be your Velcro buddy for life. If you’re looking for a scruffy sidekick with a sense of humor, a love of toys, and keen lap radar that works from three rooms away, I’m your guy. All pets adopted from GDHS are spayed or neutered, have vaccinations brought up to date, are on heartworm preventative (dogs), FIV/FELV tested (cats) and microchipped. The Greater Derry Humane Society does not have a physical shelter, and all visits are by appointment only.

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
