Description
Dog Breed: Labrador Retriever (short coat). Adoption Fee: 250. "Courtesy Post." This is not a Street Paws animal, but we are assisting a family with placing their pet. Hi there! I’m a handsome older guy with lots of love left to give. I need a new, good home because my human went to Heaven recently. I’ve enjoyed years of living in my humans' big backyard, but I might like to be trained to be an inside or inside/outside friend. Why? Because I LOVE to be where my humans are! I know how to sit on command, walk on a leash, but I love to give kisses. Other dogs, plus cats, are some of my best friends! Right now I share my dinner bowl with an outside cat, & we’ve been eating a mixture of kibbles & soft food with gravy. Yum yum! I love to be with people, whether children, seniors, or in between! I’m just a happy-go-lucky lab! My hearing isn’t as good as it used to be & I have some hip arthritis……..it’s heck getting old! But I still have lots of love to give! Adoptions are limited to an approximately 150-mile radius from Locust Grove, GA. Certain circumstances may allow exceptions. Adoption fee is $300 To apply to adopt this pet, please fill out a Preliminary Adoption Application at .streetpaws/home/adopt. This application does not commit you to an adoption. It is used to screen those interested to make sure the home is a good match for the pet and your family. We verify vet history on current/previous pets to ensure pets have been spayed/neutered and vaccinated annually. Please call your vet to give permission for us to call them. If more information is needed regarding the pet email infostreetpaws. You must complete the pre-application to obtain approval to meet the pet.

Overview:
The Labrador Retriever, a beloved and highly popular breed, originated in Newfoundland, Canada, where they were initially bred to assist fishermen by retrieving nets and stray fish. Physically, they are medium-to-large dogs, known for their strong, athletic build, short, dense, weather-resistant double coat (commonly seen in black, yellow, or chocolate), and their distinctive "otter" tail. Temperamentally, Labs are celebrated for their friendly, outgoing, and good-natured disposition, making them exceptional family companions. Their intelligence and eagerness to please contribute to their trainability, though they do require consistent exercise to prevent boredom and destructive behaviors. While adaptable, their energy levels make them more suited to homes with yards, or highly active families, rather than apartment living, unless daily extensive exercise is guaranteed. Regarding health, Labs can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia, and some eye conditions, so responsible breeding practices are crucial. Overall, their loyalty, versatility, and affectionate nature firmly establish the Labrador Retriever as a wonderful addition to many households.
