Description
Dog Breed: Unknown breed. Adoption Fee: 200.00. Justice is an active lady; she loves being in the car, headed off to the next adventure. She's a hiker and likes to swim. Justice has previously lived with kids but not other pets, although she ignores dogs when out on walks. Justice is housetrained and will bark when people come to the door. She is crate trained and goes to her crate as her safe space. She can be anxious and nervous in new settings; especially at veterinary offices. Justice was surrendered to Valley Humane on 9/6 when her owner had to move to a new home that did not allow pets. She weighs 19.4 pounds. Justice has mild dental disease and would benefit from having a thorough dental cleaning with the adopter's veterinarian within the next 6-12 months. Optimal dental health is important to a pet as it helps to preserve their teeth and improves overall health. Brushing the teeth daily with a soft toothbrush and toothpaste designed for pets will significantly improve this dog's dental health and possibly her general health in the future. Justice may have a flea allergy, which means that the dog is allergic to flea bites. Dogs with this condition can develop very itchy skin and hair loss even when they only have a few fleas. While at VHS this dog has been treated with monthly flea prevention, such as Nexgard or Frontline. The new adopters are advised to keep up with monthly flea prevention in order to control this possible flea allergy. If monthly flea control alone is not controlling the skin condition, the adopting family is advised to consult their family veterinarian for further treatment options. Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
