Description
Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed. Zane is a 3 Year Old bright, sweet-natured, and precious little 7 lb pup who was rescued from a hoarding situation and is now discovering the good life in his foster home. He is mellow, gentle, and loves nothing more than lounging with his foster siblings, playing a little hide and seek, or snuggling up with his people. He is definitely a velcro dog who thrives on attention and affection. Zane gets along beautifully with other dogs and coexists peacefully with cats, though he mostly ignores them. He is still building confidence outdoors and walks are short and sometimes a little intimidating, but he has made wonderful progress and does best when he can follow another dog’s lead. Inside the home he uses wee wee pads but is working on going outside, along with learning commands like sit, stay, and come. Because Zane is shy in new situations and fearful of loud noises, he is looking for a calm, patient home with another easygoing dog to help show him the ropes. With time, love, and reassurance, Zane will continue to blossom into the loyal, affectionate companion he is meant to be!

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
