Description
Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed. Zen is a gentle 9lb Shih Tzu/terrier mix who was recently rescued from a hoarding situation and is now learning what it means to feel safe and loved. True to her name, Zen has a calm, low-energy personality—she’s happiest curled up in your lap, napping, and soaking in cuddles. She can be shy at first, especially around new people, loud noises, or busy environments, but she’s incredibly sweet once she feels secure. Zen loves the company of other calm dogs and will do best in a quiet home with someone who’s around most of the day, she doesn’t enjoy being alone and thrives when she can be near her person. Zen is still working on crate and potty training, but she’s very resilient and eager to please. With patience and consistency, she’s sure to blossom into an even more confident little companion.

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
