Description
Dog Breed: Unknown breed (medium coat). Smokey is a 7-year-old, very friendly and outgoing boy with a heart full of love. He’s completely potty-trained, great with kids, and has lived with both men and women. Smokey spent most of his life as an outside dog, so he thrives in a yard where he can run and play freely. He has never been crated and would not do well cooped up in an apartment. He has shown some reactions to other dogs in kennels but did not react to cats he passed by—so he may benefit from meet-and-greets with other pets. Smokey is eager for his next chapter with a family who will give him the care, companionship, and freedom he deserves. **He is HW+, but you can foster to adopt , which means the dog stays with you until treatment is completed and they are cleared, at no extra cost to you. The dog comes off the adoption website once you are signed up for the foster to adopt program, or you can choose to go ahead and adopt, which at that point you are responsible for taking care of the treatment and the cost. Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
