Description
Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog / Terrier / Mixed. Heart is a spunky little guy who quickly learned how to make himself the center of attention. He’s curious, bold, and full of puppy energy. Whether he’s chasing after his stuffed toys, proudly prancing around the house, or playfully pestering the resident dogs, Heart is always up for fun. He hasn’t had a puppy friend his own age yet, but based on how much he loves trying to play with older dogs, we think he’d thrive with a canine buddy. He’s very social and greets visitors happily, showing off his sweet and silly personality. Like any young pup, Heart is still working on his manners. He enjoys chewing and tugging, so redirection and plenty of toys keep him busy. He’s making progress with potty training and often waits until he’s outside, though he still has accidents indoors. He sleeps comfortably in his open crate and pen setup, and does well when left there for short periods. Heart’s favorite things include cuddle time (he absolutely melts in your arms), exploring the yard, and strutting around with confidence like he owns the place. He’s clever, charming, and endlessly entertaining—someone is going to be very lucky to call him theirs! Heart was rescued from a high kill shelter in Texas with his mom Lucky. Meet and greets are by appointment only. An approved application is required to schedule a meeting. Check out our events page for upcoming open adoption events! We have no additional back story or update for this dog at this time. When we do, it will be updated here. This is all the information we have currently. Approved Applicants may make the adoption fee payment by clicking donate above. Partial adoption fees will not hold a dog. Dogs adopted with our rescue come with FREE training from #GoodPup to help you build strong bonds from the start! If upon meeting the dog of your choosing at your scheduled pickup time you find that you aren't a good match, your deposit will be fully refunded. Adoption fees include vaccines up until time of adoption, microchip, spay/neuter and 1st 30 days of free pet insurance. We are not affiliated with MetLife pet insurance. (you have to sign up for the insurance or it will not go into effect). Adoption fees help cover the medical care of the animals while he or she waits for a new home, as well as food and transportation costs. These fees help to provide care for the other animals in the shelter or rescue group who may have medical bills that are much higher than any possible adoption fee. The money also acts as a donation to help support the organization as a whole, allowing the group to continue its efforts to rescue and rehome pets. The dogs in our care are fostered in Colorado, Texas, and New Mexico. While all dogs are picked up during our scheduled times, sometimes transport dates change due to unforeseen circumstances. More questions? Read our FAQs here: 4p4l/faqs/ Breed labels are a "best guess" by a shelter veterinarian and cannot be guaranteed. A new study has concluded that (in layman's terms), breed assumption is NOT indicative of behavior in mixed breed dogs. Therefore, if a dog looks presumably to be a German Shepherd breed, one cannot assume the dog will have a high prey drive. From the study: "Although many physical traits were associated with breeds, behavior was much more variable among individual dogs. In general, physical trait heritability was a greater predictor of breed but was not necessarily a predictor of breed ancestry in mutts. Among behavioral traits, biddability—how well dogs respond to human direction—was the most heritable by breed but varied significantly among individual dogs. Thus, dog breed is generally a poor predictor of individual behavior and should not be used to inform decisions relating to selection of a pet dog" - .science/doi/10.1126/science.abk0639
