Description
Dog Breed: Schnauzer / Mixed (medium coat). Adoption Fee: $100.00. DOB: 5/12/13 Meet Murphy! This distinguished senior Schnauzer may have a silver muzzle, but don’t let that fool you—he’s still young at heart and always up for anything, especially if it involves snacks, short adventures, or following you from room to room just to be near you. Murphy is a food enthusiast (he’ll be your best friend at treat time!) and a world-class napper. When he’s not snoozing in a cozy spot, he’s happiest curled up next to you, soaking up snuggles and scratches. His gentle spirit and affectionate nature make him the perfect low-maintenance companion. If you’re searching for a loyal buddy who loves food, naps, and endless cuddles, Murphy is ready to fill your home with love—and maybe sneak a snack or two while he’s at it. Murphy has cataracts in one eye, but otherwise in good health given his age. Murphy was adopted through RUFF in 2015 but sadly came back into our rescue in July of 2025 along with his sister, Emmy Lou due to his owner no longer being able to care for him. Murphy and Emmy Lou have lived with each other for the past 9 years and we'd love to see them stay together, but is not a requirement. (RWP/KC*) Up to date on age appropriate vaccines and micro-chipped. Adoption Fee: $100.00

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
