Description
Dog Breed: Chihuahua (short coat). Adoption Fee: $100.00. DOB: 03/04/2014 Meet Emmy Lou! At just 4 pounds, Emmy Lou may be tiny, but she has the classic Chihuahua spirit—a big personality in a little body. She’s the kind of dog who will choose her person, and when she does, she’ll love them with her whole heart. Expect snuggles, loyalty, and a little shadow who will happily follow you around all day. Like many Chihuahuas, Emmy Lou has a big voice and isn’t afraid to use it when strangers come around. She’s also an escape artist at heart, so she’ll need a securely fenced yard with no sneaky holes to slip through (she loves little adventures, even if her people would prefer she stay home!). Emmy Lou is currently living with two other dogs and two young kids, and she does well—but she would truly thrive in a calmer, quieter home where she can feel safe, settled, and the center of attention. If you’re looking for a fiercely devoted companion who will adore you forever, Emmy Lou is waiting to wiggle her way into your heart (and probably under your blanket). Emmy Lou was adopted through RUFF in 2016 but sadly came back into our rescue in July of 2025 along with her brother, Murphy due to her owner no longer being able to care for her. Emmy Lou and Murphy have lived with each other for the past 9 years and we'd love to see them stay together, but is not a requirement. (RWP/KC*) Up to date on age appropriate vaccines and micro-chipped. Adoption Fee: $100.00

Overview:
The Chihuahua, a captivating breed known for its diminutive size, boasts an ancient and somewhat mysterious origin, with most theories pointing to Mexico as its birthplace, potentially descending from the "Techichi," a small companion dog of the Toltec civilization. Physically, they are easily recognizable by their small, compact bodies, large expressive eyes, and erect ears, appearing in both smooth and long-coated varieties, showcasing a vast array of colors and markings. Despite their tiny stature, Chihuahuas possess a big personality; they are often described as spirited, alert, and fiercely loyal to their owners, sometimes displaying a bold and confident demeanor. While their small size makes them exceptionally well-suited for apartment living, they thrive in homes where they receive ample attention and mental stimulation. They can be good family pets for older children who understand how to interact gently with a small dog, but their delicate build makes them less suitable for boisterous toddlers. Regarding health, Chihuahuas can be prone to certain conditions like patellar luxation, heart problems, and dental issues, making regular veterinary check-ups crucial for their well-being.
